Insurance for the Businessman - fraud

However much care you take in choosing your staff, you are always dependent on their honesty where cash and goods are involved. A fidelity guarantee policy protects you against any losses resulting from dishonesty up to an agreed amount. With most policies you can choose either a separate limit for each specifically named employee, or an overall sum for all your employees together. If you feel that only a few employees are in a position to cause you substantial losses in this way, you need only insure these specific employees.

Before accepting them as part of your proposal, insurers fully investigate their reputation and past business record, checking references with previous employers where necessary. The amount of cover required depends on the type of business and staff you employ. Try to estimate your losses on the basis of gross dishonesty, even if your staff is reliable - this policy is designed to cover large losses. As soon as you discover any loss which you think comes under this policy, you must notify the police and your insurer.
