Insurance for the Businessman -Professional needs

All professional people, as specialists hi their own field, are particularly vulnerable to claims made against them because of neglect or unintentional errors. Since many professional associations make special arrangements for their members, first find out whether you need any further cover before buying a professional indemnity policy from your insurer.

One specialized form of the professional indemnity policy is libel insurance, used particularly by publishers, authors, editors and printers as protection against claims for damages. Many insurers insist that the insured firm or person pays about a quarter of every claim - to encourage everyone to take extra care over what is printed.

Other policies for businessmen

Engineering insurance: These policies are especially designed for factories to cover boilers, lifts, cranes, electric motors, engines, machinery and other plants. Under the Factory Act, factory inspectors are entitled to examine equipment at any time, and penalties can, if necessary, be imposed. You can insure your firm for the reimbursement of these fines, the cost of damage t0, or breakdown of, these machines, loss of profits, third-party claims and legal costs.

Elevators: Policies cover accident claims, breakdown, damage to the lift and goods carried in the lift. Take advantage of the inspection service and maintenance contract which some insurers include as part of their policy- you will, of course, have to pay extra for this.

`All risks' : These policies for households, described in Section 30, can sometimes be used for businesses, etc. In particular, they often cover office machines.
