Car Insurance - How much does it cost?

This depends on:

1. The car make, power and age. Premiums are very high for high performance and sports cars.

2. The area in which it is being garaged.

3. The use of the car.

4. The driver - age, occupation, driving experience, address and insurance record.

The cost of a motor policy will be cheapest for a middle-aged man with a record of many years of accident-free motoring, owning a medium-sized private saloon car, which is used only for social and family purposes and garaged in a rural residential area. You will have to pay more if you have no garage, or live in central London, if your car is large and powerful, or if you use your car for business. Statistics show that the policyholders who are the worst risk are young and inexperienced drivers, especially sports-car owners, who may pay for their insurance two or three times the average premium.

Typical full premiums for a comprehensive policy are :

Small car in a city (e.g. an Austin i 200 in Birmingham): 470 Small car in a country area (e.g. an Austin i 306 in Norfolk): 495 Large car in a city (e.g. a Triumph 2000 in Birmingham): 4115 Large car in a country area (e.g. a Triumph 2000 in Norfolk): £95
