Protecting your possessions - When a claim is rejected3

If you make a claim and you think that it has been unfairly `voided, there are several things you can do firstly, complain to the insurance company involved. If that fails, go to the British Insurance Association or the Life Officers Association, or the new insurance ombudsman, if your company is a member.

These bodies have issued codes of practice for their members. They have a complaints service and deal with all complaints directly with the chief executive of the company involved, or its senior complaints officer, if there is one

These are not the only avenues open and you may prefer to go outside the industry when making your complaint in the first place.

The Citizens Advice Bureau, the Consumers Association, even the press or your local MP may be able to help.

Complaining is often effective, even where the insurance company is in the right, as it often does not want the hassle of dealing with a persistent complainer.

Payroll Giving
It’s all very easy to organise.
Just ask the Personnel or the Payroll Department at your company and, if they already have a scheme, they will give you the relevant forms.  HM Revenue & Customs’ website has a list of Payroll Giving agencies and explains payroll giving in more detail.
